Who We Are and What We Do
Founded over fifteen years ago, Banou Inc. ("Banou") is a non-profit, non-religious, and non-political charitable organization whose main mission is to strengthen and contribute to the Iranian-American community, especially among the new generation of young adults, who primarily live in the Tri-State area (New York/New Jersey/Connecticut). We strive to foster collective fellowship and friendship, and to enhance and preserve our cultural heritage, without regard for political or religious affiliations. Every year, we organize a number of events and celebrations, ranging from our main Nowruz Gala to Ladies-only Mothers' Day Luncheon, all of which have been steadily growing in popularity and attendance.
Banou is also committed to bring together and build a sense of community amongst those Iranian-Americans that are near or already in retirement. Given the special needs of these individuals, be it medical or cultural, Banou organizes various events and activities that primarily cater to this segment of our members. Examples include our weekly gatherings every Thursdays 12-5 pm, fun-filled day trips, and medical and financial seminars designed to raise awareness of various issues pertinent to this group. More importantly, Banou provides due-diligence and referral to approved nursing homes in the Tri-State area that pass its rigorous criteria, ensuring quality care for patients and providing a community for retirees that share common bonds of language and culture.
Furthermore, Banou strives to honor Iranian-Americans who have greatly contributed to the betterment of our community by achieving outstanding success in various fields such as business, sciences, humanities, and charitable endeavors. Some of our past honorees include Professor Ehsan Yarshater (Editor-in-Chief, Encyclopedia Iranica and Professor Emeritus of Iranian Studies at Columbia University), Master Mahmound Farshchian (world-renowned artist and painter), Mrs. Anousheh Ansari (entrepreneur and the first female, private space explorer), Behnaz Sarafpour (award-winning fashion designer), and Gisue & Mojgan Hariri (founders of Hariri & Hariri, a highly-acclaimed architectural firm).
Banou's Board of Directors is comprised of Mahin Khatamee, Fahimeh Khansari, Giti Zandi, Atik Mehrnia, and Zahra Bahari.
In 2010, Banou founded and registered "Bonyad-e Nowruz" foundation in the State of New Jersey as a non-profit organization with the mission and goal of "globalization of Nowruz." Those interested specifically in being a part of this foundation are encouraged to contact "Bonyad-e Norwuz" directly via e-mail.
